Mixed Berry Eton Mess |
I am stubborn, feel proprietary over certain people, and at times have not had the grace to accept things that were not meant for me. I wonder if life is just an exercise in unknowing yourself. As the years pass, perhaps everything you thought you knew about yourself, falls aside or gets ripped away. And maybe, just maybe, that is when you receive absolutely everything you deserve.
Our next love profile is a story about a man who had to let go of the love of his life to finally get her back.

A Profile of Love: P
How did you meet your wife?
P: We met in high school and had years of on again off again until we finally got married at 26. We are still happily married to this day.
What was the defining moment of your relationship?
P: Well, we got engaged once and decided to break it off. We both moved away from each other and dated other people. One day I got a call from her asking me to move back to New York where she was. I told her, "I'm not doing this again unless we are absolutely 100% going to get married". I was done playing games. She was quiet and didn't really say anything to object, so I moved to New York.
How did you propose again?
P: Haha! I didn't. We were at her mother's house and her mother asked "When are you two getting married?". My wife said she'd been looking at a few venues and had potential dates lined up. I didn't even know about it! She was planning a wedding and I was the last one to know.
Wasn't 26 awfully young?
P: No, I think it was perfect. I think I endorse people getting married young versus waiting. What's the point in waiting?
You have a daughter around that age, it's still not too young?
P: My daughter has been dating a guy who is 30 and they are about to move in together. I'm pretty sure they are on their way to marriage and I think it's great. There's no such thing as too young, get married and get your life started is what I think.

Today's recipe is an Eton mess, a traditional English dessert originally served to the boys at Eton College. It is a mix of cream, strawberries, and meringue. However, I've decided to put my own twist on it and use blackberries and raspberries.
This is for all the Eton messes I have made with my life, and all the Eton messes you will inevitably make with yours.
